GARRY ZERBE

Vineyard & Export Manager

Batting over a half century, Garry has spent his youth at the coal face of the family orchardist business.  Well known and regarded as a tireless worker, he forms the glue that sticks the various parts of the Bittern Estate operation together.

The name Zerbe originated in Prussia from where the family emigrated to establish Orchards in Doncaster in 1853.  The family Orchards expanded to Bittern and Red Hill during the mid 1900’s and in 1974 Garry assumed responsibility for running the business during which time he established the status of ‘preferred apple supplier’ to Coles Supermarkets.

A family illness resulted in the sale of the properties and hence Garry applied his management skills to establish a world class apple processing and distribution techniques for Westernport Coolstores.

From 1997 Garry was employed full time managing both his own and numerous Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley vineyards, prior to establishing Box Stallion in 2000. 2013 saw Box Stallion dissolve and Bittern Estate was established on the family property.

Today you will find Garry contributing to all aspects of the business from lending a hand to pruning, a willing cellar rat, building or fixing  vineyard equipment and pounding the pavements as chief export manager.
