Alex has been part of the wine industry since 1974, when he started winemaking at St. Hubert’s in the Yarra Valley and established his own vineyard and winery in 1974 called Lilydale Vineyards. He sold the property and brand to the large winery, McWilliams Wines in 1985 and became a winemaking consultant.

He been a consultant and contracting winemaker for many prestigious wineries in Victoria including Mt Avoca Vineyard, Plunkett Winery, Merricks Estate, Langanook, Moorooduc Estate,
Yarra Ridge, Ten Minutes by Tractor, Port Phillip and Box Stallion.

The wines Alex has made on behalf of various wineries have received many awards including 45 trophies, more than 150 gold medals, 340 silver, and more than 600 bronze medals in Australian and overseas shows, including being the first Australian wine ever to win a double gold medal at the Montreal Intervin Wine Show for the St Hubert's 1985 Beerenauslese.

Alex has judged many Australian wine shows including the Royal Melbourne Wine Show and visit European wine regions annually to maintain his international focus for wine standards and styles.
